Hand Printed French Design Table Cloths
This week we’re pleased to announce the arrival of a new collection of beautiful hand-printed table cloths from Plum Brook.
These linens feature bold, bright colors and attractive novel and floral designs inspired by the Southern French regions of Provence and Cote d’ Azur. Each table cloth is block printed by hand meaning that no two are ever exactly alike. Made from 100% pure Indian cotton, they measure 59 x 59 inches (150 x 150 cm) and are machine washable. The vibrant, casual and classic styles do a great job of dressing up tables both indoors and out and will no doubt be among your favorite table coverings for years to come.
There’s 10 designs in all with a range of colors to choose from. Best of all, as new arrivals, they’re all 10% off this week, so make sure to click over and see them. We know you’ll find several you absolutely love!

Grapefruit Soap is Back
After about a month of being out of stock, our seasonal grapefruit soap is back. It was a fairly dry winter which caused our grapefruit crop to come in more slowly than expected. Happily we had a very wet March and early April which our trees seemed to love. We now have a bumper crop of the big yellow fruit and are turning out fresh soap as quickly as we can. If you’d like to order some of this zesty handmade soap, make sure to do it now. The trees have begun to flower which means they drop the remaining fruit and we won’t be able to make any more for a year.
French and Spanish Lavender Soap
We grow more than a dozen varieties of lavender, but only half are suitable for soaps, bath oils and teas (the others are just for show in the gardens). Right now the compact Mediterranean varieties–mainly French and Spanish lavenders are in full bloom, so that’s what we’re using in our bath products.
For those of you who don’t know the different varieties, French and Spanish lavenders produce compact flowers high in lavender oil content. Because of this, these are the kinds you usually find in perfumes, soaps, etc. There are also “spike” varieties of lavender, such as sweet lavender, that produce long slender flowers in early summer and fall, which are also very fragrant, but lower in oil content. Spike lavenders are the kind you see in bouquets, “tussy mussies”, and lots of decorative uses. We use both varieties in our lavender soaps but they produce subtly different bars. The soap made with the compact lavenders tends to be darker and more perfumey, while those made with spike lavenders are lighter and sweeter. Both are wonderful, of course, but it’s fun to note the differences.
We only make our lavender soaps from French and Spanish lavenders from about May to July, because the plants really only bloom once a year. So if you’d like to try this soap, now is the time to do it! You can order it right here:
