It was a tough winter here in San Diego, California. Normally we see about 10 - 12 inches (20 - 25 cm) of rain in a year. This time around between November and March we got almost 45 inches or roughly 4 years worth of rain in just 5 months!

As you can imagine, while we’re well prepared for extended periods of dry weather (sometime 300 days without rain), lots of water creates havoc around here. We’ve had mudslides, floods, cave-ins, and I’m pretty sure that our neighbor’s horse corral up the hill is a lot closer to us than it was in October.

Fortunately, since the end of March it’s been sunny, warm and things are *finally* starting to dry out. The lavender, California lilac, citrus and wild flowers are blooming like they haven’t in years and last week we were treated to one of the biggest butterfly migrations in a decade. For nearly a week the skies were filled from horizon to horizon with hundreds of thousands of these beautiful creatures winging their way on a 3,000 mile journey from Central America to the American Northwest.

So while the winter was fairly awful, the resulting Spring has more than made up for it, placing everyone here at the Homestead in a really good mood. In celebration of Spring’s arrival we’re having a Spring Fling Shipping Sale!
